Know who joined: ask new subscribers for their name by text, and send your contact card

Someone texts your keyword during the service, and a minute later your list has one more subscriber: a phone number, and nothing else. No name to greet them with, no email for the newsletter, and when you text them next week, their phone shows a bare number they may not recognize. Two additions to MojoTxt fix both halves of that.

Ask new subscribers for their name and email, by text

Every subscription list now has a switch under its Settings: Ask for their name, Ask for their email address, or both. Right after your welcome message, a text asks the question; the reply is saved to the person in People, and the next question follows.

An example exchange:

From then on, a message that uses the {first name} tag opens with "Hi Sarah". A few details that matter in practice:

Send your contact card, so your texts show your name

A contact card is the "Add to contacts" card a phone can save in one tap: your church's name, your texting number, your logo, and optionally your website, email and address. Once it is saved, every text you send shows your name in the person's phone instead of a number.

Make the card once under the number's Settings, on the new Contact card tab. The name comes from your carrier registration, the picture is your Branding logo fitted onto a square (or an image you upload just for the card), and a preview shows how it opens on a phone. Then, on any list, turn on Send our contact card with the welcome message: the welcome goes out as one picture message with the card attached, and the default welcome text adds a line asking people to save it.

Already have subscribers who never saved your number? Write a message as usual and click Attach our contact card, in a broadcast or in an automation. A welcome or a message with the card attached is a picture message, so it uses MMS credits.
